Summer of 22: Αγγλόφωνη ποίηση από την Φωτεινή Τζουβελέκη
Summer of '22
The journey began in June of ’22,
The heat was nothing compared to the cold in my heart.
My fingers trembled as I read that text,
My dreams crushed like plates at a celebration.
July arrived with preparations.
My sister was moving forward,
And all I could do was watch
As she embarked on her journey.
August—marked on the calendar.
Her journey meant nights out with friends,
While I sobbed into my pillow,
Praying each night for mine to end.
September, I tried to make it up to myself.
Paid for a ticket that was a fraud,
Boarded a plane that never took off—
I wasn’t ready for the journey yet.
October, I took matters into my own hands.
I studied relentlessly for the next nine months,
Cared for nothing else—
All I wanted was to start my journey.
June of ’23, my journey began again.
I still don’t feel like myself,
But after that odyssey, I can proudly say,
I did this on my own.
So next time a challenge arises, I simply say,
"Ticket for one, please."
